The new viral drink trend is Gatorwine: Gatorade and wine

There may actually be something to it SUMMER around here.

The latest weird drink trend to take the internet by storm is Gatorwine, which is exactly what it sounds like: Gatorade mixed with wine.

It’s unclear where exactly this concoction originated, but it was brought to the attention of chef and YouTuber Andrew Rea, better known as Binging with Babish, after a commenter submitted the concoction for review in an edition Babish Culinary Universe tasting special.

In the video, it’s explained that Gatorwine is specifically equal parts light blue Gatorade and cheap red wine, defined as a bottle under $12.

“This is exactly what I need right now – some electrolytes, some booze,” Rea joked before taking a sip.

After taking a sip and making a weird face, the YouTube star gave a hilarious description.

“It’s unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. Always,” he laughed. “I don’t know what to make of that. Because if I’m honest, I’d rather drink this than barefoot or yellowtail.”

“Does that make me a snob or cool? I don’t know, – Rea shrugged, laughing and saying that she would drink it on the rocks and that the more she drinks it, the more she likes it.

He compared the strange concoction to Sangria due to the addition of “fruit juice” to the wine – with Glacier Freeze light blue Gatorade said to contain berries and citrus.

“I definitely don’t like it as much as Sangria, but I don’t like it any less,” he said with a bemused laugh.

Rea ranked Gatorwine a six out of 10, noting that “in a very disgusting, perverse way, I like it.”

However, as the episode goes on and he continues to drink wine while trying other recipes, he increases his score from six to seven.

The “recipe” submitter commented on the video saying that it has been “made fun of for almost a decade, and I’m going to play this video on my tombstone.”

More people in the comments want to try Gatorwine and even want to try it with other flavors.

“I tried gatorwine yesterday. I was ready to hate him. Today I did more. You win,” someone agreed.

“Can we get a proper Gatorwine sequel episode where we just mix different flavors of Gatorade with cheap wines to try and create the perfect Gatorwine?” asked one.

“Regardless of what the results say, Gatorwine was the clear winner,” wrote another.

“It’s CRIMINAL that Gatorwine only ranks 7th when it accompanied every entry after the first drink!” someone complained.

“The fact that he’s using Gatorwine as a palate cleanser makes me cringe,” laughed one.

The unemployed Wine Guy on TikTok even suggested that this is a good trick to make your bottle of red wine last longer.

Although after testing it with other Gatorade flavors, such as Glacier Cherry and Grape, he remains adamant that the wine should be mixed with Glacier Freeze.
