About “What I ate in a year (and related thoughts)”

The press release for the food recalls states:

Food has always been an integral part of Stanley Tucci’s life: from stracciatella soup served in the shadow of the Pantheon, to marinara sauce cooked between stage rehearsals and costume dressings, to homemade pizza eaten with his children before sleep.

Now, in What I ate in a year Tucci chronicles twelve months of eating—in restaurants, kitchens, movies, press suits, at home and abroad, with friends, family, strangers, and occasionally alone.

Ranging from the unforgettably memorable to the comforting home to the inedible, the foods commemorated in this journal are a prism for him to reflect on the ways his life and his family are constantly evolving. Through food he marks – and mourns – the passing of time, the loss of loved ones and steels for what is to come.

Whether it’s a duck and an orange eaten with fellow actors and cooked by singing Carmelite nuns, steaks grilled on the barbeque at a gathering with friends, or meatballs made by a mother and her son and shared at the table with three generations of the family him, these foods give shape. and added emotional richness to his days.

What I ate in a year is a funny, poignant, heartfelt and deeply satisfying serving of memories and meals and an irresistible celebration of the profound role food plays in all of our lives.
