They are nosh– classic stalgic.
For every new item fast food chains add to their menu, they seem to put one of the nostalgic fans out to pasture.
Just this week, Taco Bell announced that some stores may be discontinuing the Crunchwrap and other beloved breakfast burritos.
In honor of these retired pastries, online casino Spin Genie has listed the 10 cheap fast foods that most people miss, including McDonald’s McRib, Chipotle’s Carne Asada and Domino’s Brooklyn-style pizza.
Maybe this countdown will also inspire these fat dealers to bring them back for good.
To calculate which canceled foods left the biggest holes in customers’ hearts (no pun intended), Spin Genie analyzed Google search data to determine which defunct items people searched for the most between June 2023 and July 2024.
First up was the much-missed McDonald’s McRib with 327,100 searches.
The standout was a pressed pork slab that was drenched in BBQ sauce and stocked with sandwich buns. It was first introduced to the menu in 1981, removed in 1985, but returned in 1989 – before being removed again in 2005.
And while nosh periodically embarks on comeback tours — most recently making a heroic return to select stores in 2023 — it’s only a mainstay on McDonald’s menus in Germany and Luxembourg.
The second most missed item was Carne Asada at Chipotle (132,680 searches), a hand-seasoned steak filling that debuted in 2019 and wowed customers before going on sale the following year.
Like the McRib, this fascinating rarity will appear periodically in select stores, but fans believe they should add it to the list full-time.
Eating Domino’s may seem like a snack in NYC, but not in the rest of the world. In third place was the blue-and-red pizza chain’s Brooklyn Style Pizza (127,600), consisting of six slices of mozzarella and provolone-topped pie.
The proverbial pie crust was retired this year, 18 years after it was originally launched.
It was then replaced by the New York Style Pizza, which was similar but with a thicker crust, a change that didn’t sit well with many on the Internet.
Taco Bell’s immortal Enchirito was closely followed with 110,600 searches.
That nosh consisted of a soft flour tortilla that was filled with seasoned beef, diced beans and onions, then rolled up and slathered in red sauce.
It was then topped with melted, shredded cheddar cheese, much like an enchilada.
The item was first introduced in the 1970s and lasted until 2013 before getting the axe.
Many fans were so shocked by Enchirito’s loss that they signed petitions to bring Taco Bell back.
The item even returned in 2022 for a limited time after the Tex-Mex chain asked fans to vote for a menu item to be revived.
Rounding out the top five was McDonald’s Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait (106,800), which was one of the chain’s healthiest desserts at just 150 calories.
First debuting in 2000, the item was dropped in 2022, and the chain has made no plans to bring it back.
