This hack of the mother was one shaking and a miss.
Absolutely no one likes a crying baby on a plane.
So, to soothe her nine-month-old on a 4,000-mile flight from Brazil to Miami, Florida, a beauty influencer built her a handmade hammock by strapping a blanket between several empty seats.
And the potentially “dangerous” DIY left jaws hanging in horror.
“POV: You improvised a hammock for your baby to be comfortable on the plane,” wrote Brazilian foodie Natália Figueira in the closed caption of her controversial clip.
“Just impromptu,” she continued in the caption of the social media share, which initially garnered 7.5 million views.
“We used the blanket they give you on the plane, we tied it to it [tray] tables on both sides, put a pillow [inside] and that’s it!” Figueira said. “Mary loved it!”
Surprisingly, nervous people around the internet didn’t echo those sentiments.
“Guys, don’t do this,” demanded a concerned commenter under the viral video. “It’s dangerous.”
An equally concerned onlooker noted: “If the plane shakes due to turbulence, this baby will fly.”
And the concerns are, indeed, justified.
Severe turbulence can strike at any time while at 30,000 feet, leaving travelers — like the 30 victims of a recent rough Air Europa flight — vulnerable to severe injury or death.
After the virtual firestorm, Figueira released a statement, claiming her daughter was in the crudely constructed contraption for 30 seconds of their seven-hour flight.
“We brought her in, she played a little, but we know that children don’t sit still,” the brunette told NewsFlash. “It was when we recorded the video that was posted, she wanted out.”
Figueira, too, said she would not have pulled the stunt if she thought it would put her child at risk.
“We know that a child is not going to spend hours on a flight in peace,” the mother said, adding that the makeshift hammock was just one of the many sources of entertainment she used to entertain her child during the trip. long. “In order not to disturb the other passengers, we bring some distractions.”
But when less creative moms can’t pack a bag of toys for little flyers, one pilot suggests pulling out a chest.
“Breastfeed on the descent,” advised captain Jimmy Nicholson in a trending advice clip. “The motion of inhaling and swallowing dislodges gases trapped in their ears and sinuses.”
The keen aviator, who starred on The Bachelor: Australia, said even ice does the trick.
“Ask your flight attendant for an ice cube, give it to your child, and try to get him to inhale the ice cube,” Nicholson recommended. “This will help unblock their ears.”
“Fly safe!”
